OASIS® Floral Foam is formulated to maximize flower life for all flowers!
An MSDS was typically used in the United States and was based on American National Standards Institute (ANSI) requirements. As a result of GHS standards, Smithers-Oasis was required to transition from MSDS to SDS, which have differences in content and formatting.
As standards have changed, and the types of foams and associated performance claims have become more complex, we have determined that supplying SDSs specific to each type of foam best aligns with the market’s needs.
Format, structure and GHS Classification rules of the SDS have evolved with each version of GHS Standards. Our current SDSs follow and comply with the current regulations by country.
SDSs are documents required by GHS rules and are intended for chemical substances and mixtures. Floral foam is an article, which means that it does not result in exposure to a hazardous chemical under normal conditions of use. Because our floral foam is an article (and not a chemical substance or mixture), an SDS is not legally required.
Smithers-Oasis cares about our customers and the planet. We are dedicated to being transparent.
Although an SDS is not required for floral foam, we understand that floral designers and consumers consider an SDS to be a “best practice” when providing information about a product they use.
For the sake of global consistency and to minimize confusion and suspicion among users and consumers, all Smithers-Oasis units are required to use the floral foam SDSs generated by Corporate Regulatory. Locally-produced regulatory materials are no longer valid.
If you aren’t sure if you are using an accurate document, contact Corporate Regulatory.

Yes, the tests we follow (ASTM D5511 and ISO 15985) test biodegradation in an anaerobic environment.
However, to make a claim of “biodegradable,” there are specific requirements for the rate of degradation within a limited period of time. Since we do not meet that specification, we can only state that our products “degrade.”
